LOCATED NEAR ROSELLE AT 276 E. IRVING PARK ROAD, WOOD DALE, IL 60191
Just today, you’ve done several things that some of our residents can’t do without a little help.
You probably got out of bed, got dressed, and made coffee. You may have buttoned a shirt, or tied a pair of shoelaces. Perhaps you made the bed, curled your hair, or bent over to feed the dog without giving it a second thought.
You managed all those tasks without help, and (hopefully) without pain, protesting joints and achy knees notwithstanding.
But as we age, the easy mobility and dexterity we so readily take for granted begins to slip away. After an accident, fall, or medical incident, we find ourselves having to build up strength or relearn old habits to regain our former level of independence.
Depending on your age and health, that future may be far off. But for many of our residents, it’s their everyday life. That’s why The Radcliff has its own in-house Physical and Occupational Therapists near Roselle.
What do PTs and OTs do in an Assisted Living Facility?
While Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists complement each other, they are distinct specialities, and not all assisted living facilities have Occupational Therapists near Roselle.
Why Physical Therapy?
PTs often work with patients who are recovering from an injury, fall, or other traumatic event. Our residents often work with a PT in a hospital or skilled rehab facility—a temporary solution for those in recovery, which is covered under Medicare. From there, patients can opt into “home health,” meaning a PT will come to their residence once or twice a week.
But too often, that simply isn’t enough: For each day someone is confined to bed, it takes three days of PT to reverse the muscle loss!
That’s why The Radcliff has our own in-house home health Physical Therapist who can see patients as often as they need to be seen—sometimes five days a week! With that extra time and attention, our residents see real improvement.
Why Occupational Therapy?
While PTs focus on recovery and building back strength, Occupational Therapists near Roselle focus on function.
Daily tasks, like buttoning up a shirt or walking without tripping, can become impossible for some of our residents. These fine motor skills are essential for independent living and take dedicated time and therapy to regain.
Just like with PT, having an in-house OT is an absolute game-changer. Our residents get the help and training they need to make real strides forward, tailored to their unique needs and circumstances. They re-learn how to safely get their shoes on and how to transfer (e.g., from a wheelchair) without hurting themselves, navigating daily life with greater confidence.
With PT and OT combined, many chair-bound residents even begin to walk again.
At The Radcliff, our goal is to see how tall all of our residents are.
What costs are associated with PT and OT at The Radcliff?
Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy near Roselle are always billed separately through your insurance provider. Our staff will get an order from a doctor, verify the co-pay, and communicate clearly with the resident’s family before moving forward—you’ll never get a surprise therapy bill from The Radcliff.
How has therapy impacted daily life for Radcliff Residents?
Since introducing PT and OT at The Radcliff, we’ve seen tremendous success.
One resident in particular—we’ll call her Susan—hadn’t been doing well with traditional Home Health, and couldn’t quite manage on her own. That’s when she moved in with us.
From day one, her goal was to move back home. She started doing PT, using our in-house therapist.
In three weeks, she was up and walking.
She moved back home to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family.
Does your parent need a little extra help to get moving? Book a tour of The Radcliff and might just meet our PT and OT in person!
